Boca Grande Pass Fishing Report: Goliath Grouper.

Boca Grande Pass Fishing Report, Thursday, June 30, 2016 / Florida Fishing Report – Boca Grande: goliath grouper under the phosphate dock; a lot of tarpon still rolling and hitting in Boca Grande Pass.  We’re mostly focused on Boca Grande Pass during peak tarpon season fishing, but we also give updates on fishing the Boca Grande area throughout the year.

Boca Grande is famous for tarpon fishing, particularly when the tarpon move into Boca Grande Pass in May and June.  Many consider Boca Grande Pass the best tarpon fishing location in the world!

The tarpon also attract very large bull sharks and hammerhead sharks that congregate to feed on the tarpon, so it is also famous for big time catch and release shark fishing!

Year round, the fishing at Boca Grande, in and around Gasparilla Island and greater Charlotte Harbor is terrific!  We catch sea trout, redfish, snook, flounder, spanish mackerel, grouper, goliath grouper and many, many more species!

So whether you are an experienced fisherman or just a family looking to have some fun, give us a call and we’ll get out on the water!

Please see additional fishing reports, photos and videos at our other fishing report sites for Sanibel & CaptivaFort MyersMiamiNaples and Tampa.

Happy fishing!

Today’s Tampa Fishing Report: Early Tarpon.

Tampa Fishing Report, Saturday, March 26, 2016 / Florida Fishing Report – tarpon – see some very early and scattered tarpon rolling around Boca Grande and North Captiva; check here latest Water Quality / Lake Okeechobee Update and here for Red Tide Report.

Most of the time we fish Tampa’s flats, passes, oyster bars, inlets and islands.  Sometimes we’ll go offshore of Tampa a couple of miles or so if we’re fishing for goliath grouper, or tarpon or sharks.

We’re big advocates of catch and release, particularly for snook, but pretty much for most species.  Only take what you are going to eat, and a lot of fish are better off as sport fish, even if they are in season.  Our motto is let ‘em get bigger and catch ‘em again!

Please see our SanibelCaptivaFort MyersSeashell & Shelling and Cuban Fishing sites for charter photos from our other captains, additional fishing and shelling reports, and musings on fishing in Cuba one of these days!

Tampa fishing is some of the best in the world!  A fishing trip is a great family adventure and your children will love it!

The Tampa – St. Petersburg – Clearwater area has some of the nicest beaches in Florida, including Ford Desoto’s North Beach, Caladesi Island and Siesta Key!

Perhaps more important to fishing, the Tampa-St. Pete area has a great coastline structure and topography. Barrier islands stretch close to 70 miles from North Pinellas to Venice. In general, barrier islands mean great fishing habitat because they create passes where fish move on the tides in concentrated fashion, and also protected back-bay areas for the overall ecosystem.

On parts of the west coast of Florida, including the Tampa area, the barrier islands also tend to still have large protected mangrove areas.   Mangroves are critical to the whole lifecycle of the ecosystem. Mangroves are often truly foundational to the formation of the islands and their decaying leaves feed microorganisms that are the starting point of the food chain that leads up to tarpon and sharks at the top of the system!

We’re just getting started in Tampa, but we’re looking forward to reporting on Tampa fishing!
